Creating Dialogue through Public Symposia

The public symposia offered by the Emory-Tibet Partnership have drawn medical professionals, scientists, scholars, and members of the Emory and Atlanta communities to learn from and participate in the collaborations taking place. Recent symposia have included "Mind-Body Medicine at the Interface of Mood and Health: Tibetan Buddhist and Western Perspectives on Depression in the Medically Ill" with leading Tibetan physician Dr. Pema Dorjee, Dr. Charles Raison of Emory's Psychiatry Department, and a panel of western physicians, and "Understanding the Mind Inside and Out: Bridging Buddhism and Modern Science" with internationally-known Buddhist scholars Georges Dreyfus and Alan Wallace.

Meditation for Preventive Health

Arising from the results of the compassion meditation study, the Meditation Program for Preventive Health will offer back to the community training in meditative techniques that have been shown to reduce levels of depression and stress through the compassion meditation study of the Emory Collaborative for Contemplative Studies. The aim is to make this program available to not just the Emory community of faculty, students and staff, but also to other communities of medical and health care professionals, schools, hospitals, and other institutions where it can benefit society. Funding is now being sought to make this program a reality.
