July-2021 6th Cohort TGSS Completed Prep Training
The 6th cohort Tenzin Gyatso Science Scholars (TGSS) recently completed four months of intensive preparatory training in English, science, math, and basic computer skills at the Drepung Loseling Meditation and Science Center (DLMSC). ETSI deeply appreciates DLMSC for offering this training, onsite and in-person, when the monasteries were locked down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 6th cohort consists of four monks and three nuns who will join Emory College in the fall for a two-year non-degree science course, which includes introductory classes in biology, physics, and neuroscience in the first year, and more advanced science classes and labs in their second and final year.
Till now, 30 monastics, including two nuns, have completed this program, many of whom are now serving as science instructors, teaching assistants, science coordinators, or science center directors. These scholars are central to the long-term sustainability of science education at Tibetan monastic institutions. ETSI wants to welcome the 6th cohort to Emory and wishes them good luck and Godspeed.
